We are building active, resilient learners who have a thirst for knowledge and a love of learning through a broad, balanced curriculum and a wealth of experiences. We aim to ensure our curriculum is rich in language – both spoken and written as it underpins success in all subject areas; and most importantly that in our school family, all come to know, experience and be witness to the love of Christ in our ethos, community and curriculum.
Our curriculum has been carefully shaped with our children and community at its heart. We have thought carefully about coverage, content and structure to enable all of our learners to overcome barriers and develop a depth of knowledge and understanding across all subjects, building on what has gone before. We have considered how children learn and remember, ensuring the sequence is logical and systematic and that key concepts are explicit, discussed, revisited and linked to new knowledge. We are a proudly inclusive school and our curriculum is designed to be ambitious and meet the needs of all of our learners.
We aspire that all of our children leave St Teresa’s as readers – this means more than just the ability to read. Alongside a rigorous and structured phonics programme and explicit, high quality teaching of reading skills, our children will experience daily reading of the very highest quality of fiction and non-fiction books; our teachers are readers and will share this passion with their classes. We aim to develop a depth of understanding of language through explicit teaching and a rich, broad vocabulary that will support learning in all curriculum areas. Reading opportunities are deliberately planned into all subjects – it is at the very heart of our curriculum and our intent is that our children will love reading.
We are passionate that our children leave St Teresa’s with the tools to be successful in life. The basic skills so that they can access all areas of the curriculum; a depth of knowledge and across all subject areas so they have the building blocks for which ever direction they would like to go in future education and employment and moreover, we recognise that to be happy and successful in life, our curriculum needs to promote the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our children and ensure they leave understanding how to have a healthy body and mind. We aim to promote risk taking and resilience in the face of set-backs; scaffold towards independence and ensure our children leave having experienced a true joy and excitement in learning that leads to a pride in their achievements, a personal responsibility to learn and thirst for knowledge that will drive future learning and build aspirations. We want our children to leave equipped with not only knowledge, but a sense of who they are and their responsibilities as active global citizens.
Most importantly, we hold paramount that all come to know, experience and be witness to the love of Christ and His family in our ethos, community and curriculum.
