The Woodlands is a 14 place Resource Provision for primary aged children who have a diagnosis of Autism and may also have a Severe Learning Disability. Admission to the Resource Provision is through the Local Authority panel process and NOT through St Tereas’s School or the LA mainstream admission procedures.

We understand that each child is an individual and our dedicated and compassionate team, led by our experienced Assistant Head Teacher and SENCo, Mrs L Winder, are highly skilled in identifying each child’s unique strengths and challenges and creating a tailored educational experience to help all children to achieve their full personal and educational potential.

Personalised learning plans are designed to ensure that children are able to make progress across the curriculum but also to develop as individuals and live as independently as possible in the future. The structure and consistent routines in place help the children to feel safe and begin to understand and follow routines and instructions with greater independence. A total communication approach helps the

children to develop their speech and communication skills in the most accessible way to them. Many other approaches such as Attention Autism are fully utilised to help to improve children’s attention and listening skills.

The staff within The Woodlands work closely with families to fully understand and support the needs of all the children and can offer additional support wherever possible e.g. toilet training. The Woodlands Lead and SENCo works closely with external agencies to ensure all children receive the highest level of care and educational support.

The Woodlands provision offers a safe, calm and engaging learning environment which is split over two teaching rooms. Within the provision, children also have access to a sensory room, a separate quiet room and a hygiene suite. Outside the provision, the children have access to their own playground and play equipment which is used throughout the day.

At The Woodlands, we understand that a mainstream primary school can be very challenging for some children and many children will have already experienced this before being placed in the Resource Provision. We are absolutely dedicated in providing a safe, calm, nurturing space where children feel safe, valued, happy and understood. Together with parents, carers and other professionals, we work as a team to help children to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their personal best.
