Intent:  At St Teresa’s, we  place reading at the core of our primary curriculum which links directly with writing, recognising them as interconnected skills fundamental to learning, personal growth, and academic success. We are committed to developing confident, articulate communicators who can read with deep comprehension and write with clarity, creativity, and purpose.
Through a carefully sequenced, ambitious curriculum, we aim to equip all pupils with the reading and writing skills necessary to become confident, skilled communicators who can express themselves eloquently, think critically, and engage meaningfully with the world around them.
Our approach ensures that reading and writing are not seen as discrete skills, but as powerful, interrelated means of understanding, exploring, and communicating ideas.
Our core scheme is CLPE’s Power of Reading. At the heart of each unit is a purposefully chosen, high quality text from which all of the writing opportunities arise.  It fosters reading and writing for pleasure.  We have also carefully interwoven the grammar objectives to ensure that the teaching of writing is rigorous and high quality.

Reading is at the heart of our school.  We are very proud of our new school library and the children love it!  Our Reading Ambassadors take great care of the library and books and love recommending new reads to the other children.
Every three weeks, each class also visits our local library in Little Lever.  We just love books!

Our English Subject Leader is Mr Marshall.
